Hurricane Harvey & Irma Update | Sept 21, 2017

The October 5th meeting has been canceled. Our next SFCA Event will be the Family Day Event on 10/21. Details of the event will be posted soon and proceeds of the event will go to the victims of Hurricane Irma. The Laurie Flood Scholarship winner will be announced at the Family Day event.

Disaster Site Safety & Working with Fire Departments
CEU Category: Optional Hour
Workshop Length: 1 CE Hour

Do you climb roofs, go into attics or inspect fire or storm-damaged buildings? Did you know falls are the most common injuries on construction sites? This workshop will give you the basics of disaster site safety so you can investigate on, in and under disaster sites without getting injured. Are you also confused on how best to work with fire departments, fire scene protocols or how to read a fire report?

By the end of the session you’ll know:

  • The basics of ladder safety including:
    • Choosing the right ladder for each purpose
    • Methods of staging, placing, mounting and dismounting a ladder
    • Inspecting a ladder to determine if it is fit for use
  • Confined Spaces safety:
    • Attics
    • Crawlspaces
    • Structurally damaged buildings
  • How to best work with fire departments
    • How fire departments and their management work
    • Fire scene protocols and on-going investigations
  • Fire Reports
    • How to read and interpret
    • Who to call for questions and additional information you can get by asking the right questions

Speaker Credentials: Mr. Clinton Roberts, Jr. is a Certified Fire Investigator, Fire Inspector, Fire Instructor and safety expert. He is also a Certified Emergency Medical Technician and member of the International Association of Fire Investigators.
